Šteta: There are no clans in the party, I have no ambition to be SDP president, Nikšić is doing an excellent job

(Patria) - President of the SDP Sarajevo Municipal Board and Minister of Transport in the Government of Sarajevo Canton Adnan Šteta denied that there are clans within the SDP, and said that social media are a medium where anyone can write anything.

"In Sarajevo, as far as the SDP is concerned, the situation is great. I cannot say there are clans; we defend the principles of social democracy. When you are in power, you have to make compromises, you have to work. We are preparing for the local elections. Our target will be to improve the result, and we are convinced we can do it," Šteta said on the BHRT morning program.

He confirmed that the Troika will go together in the local elections, but believes it is still early for those activities.

Asked whether he is a candidate for president of the SDP, given that Nermin Nikšić can no longer run, Šteta firmly denied it.

"I have no such ambition. I think we should focus on what is happening. President Nikšić is leading the party excellently. We do not see anyone from the SDP publicly saying they would like that position. We made a decision that the new Congress will be after the local elections, that is, next year. But it is still early to talk about it. The SDP is a large and responsible party, and however we agree, I think it will be a joint agreement," Šteta said.

As was the case last time when the Congress extended Nikšić's term as head of the SDP, a campaign is already underway this time for Nikšić to remain in that position. Besides Šteta, another advocate of this idea is Vojin Mijatović, who is one of the ministers in the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Regarding the projects of the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, Šteta said that work is being done dynamically on the construction of the tram line from Ilidža to Hrasnica, the trolleybus network to Vogošća, transversal roads, connecting Sarajevo, and improving public transport and transit.

He confirmed that six new Stadler trams have already arrived in Sarajevo, and night and day testing is underway.

"By the beginning of August, the remaining trams will arrive, and all 15 trams will be in service by the start of the school year," Šteta announced.
