Šteta and Efendić signed agreements on road reconstruction in Ive Andrića and Džemala Bijedića streets

(Patria) - Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton Adnan Šteta, Mayor of Novi Grad Municipality Semir Efendić, and Director of the Sarajevo Road Directorate Selmir Kovač signed today Agreements on joint initiation of public procurements for the reconstruction of roads in Ive Andrića and Džemala Bijedića streets.

The signing of the Agreements is the first step towards the realization of these two projects, which will significantly improve the quality of life in Novi Grad, increase safety, and reduce traffic jams.

The reconstruction of the 955-meter-long road in Džemala Bijedića street will include the renovation and expansion of Džemala Bijedića street from the current two to four traffic lanes and the construction of a new roundabout, from the previously built roundabout near Grasa to the roundabout near the market in Otoka.

Works on the road in Ive Andrića street and sidewalks will include reconstruction over a length of 655 meters.

“We have made significant investments in Novi Grad Municipality in recent years regarding cantonal roads. From 2021 to date, we have a large number of new projects and new segments. These two roads are a continuation of our commitment to improving the quality of life in this municipality. With projects like Majdanska, Bulevar Mimara Sinana, the segment from Džemala Bijedića via IX transversal to the highway, we have improved the quality of life and we are continuing. I thank the mayor and the municipal administration for their cooperation in implementing the projects,” stated Minister Šteta.

The value of the road reconstruction project in Džemala Bijedića street is 6.6 million KM with VAT, of which the Ministry of Transport allocates six million through its budget and the Road Directorate budget, and the Municipality covers the rest. The value of the road reconstruction project in Ive Andrića street is 2.3 million KM with VAT, of which the Ministry of Transport allocates 2.1 million through its budget and the Road Directorate budget, and the Municipality provides the remaining funds.

“With this section of Džemala Bijedića street that remains to be done in Novi Grad, the reconstruction and expansion of Džemala Bijedića street through Novi Grad Municipality will be completed. We are reaching the border with Novo Sarajevo Municipality, to VI transversal, which is the line between Novi Grad and Novo Sarajevo municipalities. Džemala Bijedića street will be done in two phases, the first phase is the road itself, and the second phase is the roundabout. This is the last section through this densely populated area, where the hospital and health center are located, and these are the busiest roads in the Sarajevo Novi Grad Municipality. These are major primary roads and a continuation of the cooperation between Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality and the Sarajevo Ministry of Transport in implementing major infrastructure projects in the field of roads in Novi Grad Municipality. I am very pleased that we have the opportunity to undertake the implementation of such large and significant projects,” said Mayor Efendić.

Following today's signing of the Agreements, public procurement procedures for both projects will be initiated.
