Old Bridge among Seven Little-Known World Wonders

On the website of the British media house BBC, the Old Bridge in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been ranked among seven little-known wonders of the world, reports the Patria News Agency.

Among the world wonders that include the Parliament Building in Bucharest, the Great Indian Wall, the Shah Lotfollah Mosque in Iran, the symmetrical stairs in India, the Djenné mosques in Mali, is also the Old Bridge in Mostar.

If every architectural structure in every country has its story, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Old Bridge has its comeback glory.

The Old Bridge was built from 456 blocks of local stone in 1566, and was built by the Turkish architect Mimar Hayruddin, writes the BBC.

-It was the heart of this city for 427 years. In the nineties, it was destroyed in bombing during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina. It took 10 years for the idea of its reconstruction to come to life. Thus, it was finally restored and reopened in 2004. Although the bridge has changed, the tradition has remained the same. Every year, the competition of diving into the cold Neretva River is held on it, in which locals show their skill and courage, writes the BBC.
