Residents organize warning protest over Smiljevići landfill, demand fulfillment of requests

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At the entrance to the Smiljevići landfill near Sarajevo on Tuesday, September 24, a warning protest will be held against "poisoning and stench". 

As announced on a facsimile of a poster circulating on social media, the protest, which begins at 5:00 PM, is organized by residents of settlements near the landfill. 

"We call on activists of political parties to refrain from political marketing during the protest and to selflessly, humanely support our struggle. We and our homes are not illegal; the landfill is illegal," the protest notice states. 

 The organizers reiterate earlier demands.

"Urgent allocation of funds from the budget of the Sarajevo Canton for all necessary actions on the remediation of the landfill. Re-covering of improperly covered parts of the landfill and independent control of the covering, regular informing of the population about the concentration of landfill gas at the edges of the landfill," the list of demands states, among other things.
