Residents of Željezno Polje soon in new homes

In May 2014, during the catastrophic floods of 2014, Željezno Polje suffered great damage. 82 residential buildings were completely destroyed. 77 buildings have been renovated, some received new buildings, and some received money for construction, while the remaining five will be resolved soon, reports the Patria news agency.

In the Žepče settlement of Donja Golubinja, 25 buildings, i.e. 32 housing units, are being built for owners whose houses are located in the so-called endangered zones, i.e. in the immediate vicinity of landslides. These houses have minor damage, but landslide remediation is needed, which costs much more than relocating these residents.

The handover of keys is planned for the end of November 2015, meaning that the residents of Željezno Polje will welcome winter in new houses. In addition to this, much has been done on the construction of new infrastructure.

- A lot has been done, work has been done on the rehabilitation of road infrastructure, construction of embankments and cleaning of riverbeds. Also, the construction of two large bridges is underway. All facilities that were flooded or had minor damage from landslides have been repaired - said Brigita Lovrić, assistant to the mayor of the Municipality of Žepče in the Service for Construction and Spatial Planning.

Caritas Switzerland built 30 residential buildings with 40 housing units in the municipality of Žepče, of which 25 buildings with 32 housing units at the location in Donja Golubinja, provided by the Municipality of Žepče, in the amount of 1,100,000.00 KM. The other buildings are at other individual locations.

Catholic Relief Services - CRS participated at the location of the new settlement in D. Golubinja by financing the development of the main infrastructure project and the construction of infrastructure (water supply and sewage) in the settlement itself, in the amount of 430,000.00 KM.

Also, the Fund for Aid to Victims of Natural Disasters in the territory of the Federation of BiH participates in the project of increasing the existing capacity of the water supply in Donja Golubinja, in the amount of 100,000 KM.

- Depending on the arrival of donations, as well as own funds, the municipality will continue to invest continuously in remedying the consequences of the natural disaster - concluded Lovrić.
