(Patria) - Crowds are nothing new at border crossings. Especially not at this time of year, given that Christmas and New Year are approaching, and many citizens living in Western European countries want to spend the upcoming holidays in their homeland.
The Una-Sana Canton (USK) is perhaps the one with the largest diaspora in the entire country.
At the Maljevac border crossing near Velika Kladuša, the main wave passed during the night, when waiting times to cross the border reached several hours. The queues stretched for several kilometers.
Today the situation is somewhat better. Drivers say they are not waiting longer than an hour and a half. However, they expect conditions to worsen as the day progresses.
Besides the Maljevac border crossing, congestion is also being recorded at other border crossings.
This morning, BIHAMK reported that the busiest crossings are from Dvor towards Novi Grad, followed by Gradiška and Gradina.
The Croatian police said that yesterday there were also those who, in an attempt to cross the border as quickly as possible, overtook the queue improperly.
This endangered, or could have endangered, both their own safety and the safety of other drivers.
They paid a fine of 390 euros, had their driver's license confiscated, and were sent back to the very end of the queue.
