German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that Germany looks with concern at the composition of the future European Parliament, given that there are too many populist and nationalist parties, writes the BiH news agency Patria.
- We are unpleasantly surprised by the results in France. Those who are interested in the success of Europe must not allow the strengthening of right-wing parties – said Steinmeier.
He also commented on the elections held in Ukraine, where the new president Petro Poroshenko was elected.
- People in Ukraine must be satisfied that elections were held at all without bloodshed. Voter turnout was high. Political paradise does not lie there. I hope that the new president will be able to bridge the gap between the east and west of Ukraine – said Steinmeier.
Speaking about Russian aspirations towards Ukraine, its eastern part, Steinmeier said that those who do not respect legitimacy must respect the introduction of new legitimacy.
- I would take into account that the Russian leadership will respect this election result, and they have shown readiness to start talks. That is a signal on which further discussions can be based – said Steinmeier, writes Patria.
