Stable Position of UNSA on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025

(Patria) - On the Times Higher Education World University Rankings list for 2025, which ranks 2,092 universities from 115 countries and regions worldwide, the University of Sarajevo is positioned at 1501+, the same position as last year.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is the only global university performance measurement system that assesses teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

Recognised as one of the most comprehensive assessments of university performance worldwide, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings methodology includes 18 calibrated indicators to evaluate institutions across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement and international outlook, in order to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons of universities. The comprehensive evaluation method of Times Higher Education takes into account, for higher education institutions, their size, significance and reputation, both for the local community and regionally and internationally, as well as the breadth of diverse study programmes offered and the possibilities for their synergy through multidisciplinary work.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2025 evaluated data from 2,860 universities, of which 2,092 were included in the ranking list.

Analysis of the Times Higher Education rankings shows that the entire higher education system has experienced fluctuations, with a significant number of universities recording a decline in the rankings, while maintaining previous positions indicates the stability of institutions and their continuous development.

On the Times Higher Education ranking, the University of Sarajevo is in the same category as universities from the region: the University of Novi Sad, the University of Rijeka and the University of Montenegro.

In the July edition of the Webometrics ranking, the University of Sarajevo is ranked 1439th on the world list among more than 32,000 universities, placing it in the top 4.5% of all universities on this list and making it the highest-ranked university in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the QS World University Rankings, the University of Sarajevo is positioned between 1001–1200th place, as the only representative from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

However, the University of Sarajevo continues to strive for higher goals, including positioning on the Shanghai Ranking (Academic Ranking of World Universities), which places particular emphasis on research capacity and scientific contribution. The next development cycle of the University of Sarajevo must be focused on key activities to further strengthen research infrastructure, international partnerships and scientific production, with the aim of creating the preconditions for entry onto the Shanghai Ranking. As before, the focus in this direction must be placed on internationalisation and increasing the visibility of the University of Sarajevo at the global level.

The results were achieved thanks to the synergistic action of the academic and scientific research staff of the member institutions of the University of Sarajevo, as well as the students of our university, who continuously contribute to strengthening the reputation of this institution at the global level.
