Sarajevo Canton Civil Protection Headquarters Issues Five Orders for Flood Damage Mitigation

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Based on the Law on Protection and Rescue of People and Material Property from Natural and Other Disasters, and the Decision of the Sarajevo Canton Government declaring a state of natural disaster due to floods in our canton, the Sarajevo Canton Civil Protection Headquarters has issued five orders aimed at successfully combating floods and mitigating their consequences.

With the first Order, the Headquarters mandated protection and rescue services to make all their forces and resources available for use in undertaking measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and material property from floods in the Sarajevo Canton. The engagement of these forces and resources will be carried out through the Cantonal Operational Center of Civil Protection, based on the expressed needs of coordinators from municipalities in affected areas. This order requires all aforementioned protection and rescue services to submit a detailed Report on conducted activities to the Sarajevo Canton Civil Protection Headquarters daily by 18:00, via the Cantonal Operational Center of Civil Protection.

With the second Order, the Headquarters mandated the municipal civil protection headquarters of Stari Grad, Centar, and Novo Sarajevo to make all their forces and resources available to the Sarajevo Canton Civil Protection Headquarters, which will be used in undertaking measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and material property from floods in the Sarajevo Canton. The engagement of forces and resources of the mentioned municipal civil protection headquarters will be carried out through the Cantonal Operational Center of Civil Protection, based on the expressed needs of coordinators from municipalities in affected areas. This order requires the municipal civil protection headquarters of Stari Grad, Centar, and Novo Sarajevo to submit a detailed Report on conducted activities to the Sarajevo Canton Civil Protection Headquarters daily by 18:00.

The third Order mandated the Public Utility Company "Rad" to make all its forces and resources available to the Sarajevo Canton Civil Protection Headquarters, which will be used in undertaking measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and material property from floods in the Sarajevo Canton. The engagement of these forces and resources will also be carried out through the Cantonal Operational Center of Civil Protection, based on the expressed needs of coordinators from municipalities in affected areas. The Public Utility Company "Rad" will also submit a detailed Report on conducted activities to the Sarajevo Canton Civil Protection Headquarters daily by 18:00.

With the fourth Order, the Headquarters also mandated the Public Institution "Institute for Public Health of Sarajevo Canton" to conduct daily control and testing of water quality in local water supply systems throughout the Sarajevo Canton. This institute is also tasked with submitting a detailed Report on conducted activities to the Sarajevo Canton Civil Protection Headquarters daily by 18:00. The same order requires the municipal civil protection headquarters to promptly inform the local population about the results of water control and testing from the aforementioned water supply systems.

The fifth Order mandated the Directorate for Commodity Reserves of Sarajevo Canton to allocate and make available 10 tons of diesel fuel from its reserves for the needs of the Sarajevo Canton Civil Protection Headquarters. The allocated quantities of diesel fuel will be used during the operation of the technical equipment of the Public Utility Company "Rad."
