What is Hota-Muminović doing: Students of Aleksa Šantić Elementary School forced to go on a field trip this December instead of next May?!

(Patria) - The Parents' Council of Aleksa Šantić Elementary School in Sarajevo will hold a meeting tomorrow after, according to them, the Minister of Education of Sarajevo Canton, Naida Hota-Muminović, refused to give consent for ninth-grade students to go on a field trip in May next year, forcing them to go in December this year.

This is the result of the entry into force of the Rulebook on the implementation of nature school, excursions, study visits, field trips, camping, socially useful learning, and other forms of educational work in elementary and secondary schools, which stipulates that students go on a field trip at the beginning of the ninth grade instead of in the second semester, writes Faktor.

- She banned children from going on field trips in the second semester. Before that, she banned them from going on field trips outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Now it means that Hota has imagined my child visiting Hutovo blato, Kravice, or Štrbački buk in December... Or to "enjoy" the emptiness of Neum during the winter. Does anyone have a logical explanation – says Amina Čorbo Zećo, mother of a ninth-grade student at Aleksa Šantić Elementary School.

The Trade Union of Elementary Education and Upbringing of Sarajevo Canton also reacted. President Saudin Sivro calls the minister's move a "crime against children".

- If I were the parent of a ninth-grade student who, according to the Rulebook, is supposed to go on a field trip in December this year, not in May next year, I would ask the minister why she hates my child who is currently unhappy because of her unfair Rulebook.

I would ask her why she doesn't allow my child to go on a field trip in May with my and my wife's money.
I would ask her if she will immediately change her stance and allow the students of Aleksa Šantić Elementary School to go on a field trip as planned, or if the parents will be forced to take matters into their own hands – says Sivro.

He adds that this school received a notification yesterday that the field trip cannot be realized at the end of the ninth grade because the minister stipulated in the Rulebook that it must be at the beginning of the ninth grade.



- Why September and May? Because these months are quite warm, and accommodation is not expensive then. Field trips are something everyone remembers, children are deprived of memories that last a lifetime.

I would ask the minister if she knows about December's sub-zero temperatures and cold. There is no logical answer to what is being done – said Saudin Sivro.

Minister Hota-Muminović did not answer the call.
