What is Aida to Bakir, Dragan, and Mladen?

Who today, December 28, 2014, cares about the fate of the desperate workers of the failed former industrial giants of Tuzla?

As snow falls, minus temperatures rage, and workers from Tuzla don't know what fate awaits them, just like a larger part of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who live from day to day with salaries that have long ceased to be worthy of a normal life, both the ruling and opposition parties calmly observe the outcome.

The opposition doesn't care. Let the government deal with the workers, failed privatizations, unemployment... They elected them, so now they have them. Let no one complain.

HDZ BiH leader Dragan Čović, still intoxicated by the "Christmas mystery," hurried to "vote" this morning. What an absurdity!?

The head of our state votes for the head of a neighboring state. And he makes statements about what the election of the Croatian president means to us.

What do the workers of Tuzla's "Aida" mean to Čović? Nothing. He probably heard about them in passing. And they are not in his "county." The fact that, as the head of state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who took an oath based on the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he should be concerned with this problem means nothing.

The workers of "Aida" are not his concern.

SDA Deputy President Bakir Izetbegović is probably "busy with work" on repairing tens of thousands of homes damaged in the floods.

He promised in the election campaign that all houses would be renovated by winter. And he has to employ 100,000 people. It's not an easy job.

Or perhaps he used this Sunday to rest, watching the snow fall in Sarajevo from the warmth of his home in Poljine, while the fire crackled in the fireplace.

He shouldn't be blamed; who would disturb all that now because of some people from Tuzla?

The workers of "Aida" are not his concern either.

And the leader of PDP, Mladen Ivanić, has just returned from Belgrade. He had talks with Vučić and Nikolić, and they agreed on good cooperation. This inter-state cooperation.

Now Ivanić has to think about where he will go for New Year's. And then Christmas is coming, followed by a bunch of non-working days, because he is the Serb member of the BiH Presidency and acts normally in accordance with the laws of RS. 

When you think about it, why would Ivanić worry in this winter weather about some people from Tuzla who are "walking" to the border and then returning. They are not from his entity.

The workers of "Aida," of course, are not his concern either.

The leader of the Democratic Front, Željko Komšić, is also not particularly concerned about the fate of the people of Tuzla. They have entered the government, and now they have to distribute their people into positions. Who would think about anything else now.

If they had to answer this question now, Izetbegović, Čović, and Ivanić would surely unanimously say that it is not within the jurisdiction of the BiH Presidency.

This burning issue, which threatens to escalate into a fire with unforeseeable consequences, is not the concern of the lower level either, the entity level.

They say the cantonal level must resolve it. And cantons are a story in themselves. Tug and pull, the legislative authorities have been constituted. But God help us, given how they started, they might remain that way until summer.

And this perversely structured country, where for 19 years it has been perfectly clear who eats and drinks and who pays the bill, and where responsibilities are fantastically divided so that when they are played with like ping-pong balls, the problems faced by citizens return to square one, suits everyone perfectly.

Intertwined responsibilities and Dayton are sacred and the best excuse. For "ours," "yours," and "theirs."

So whose concern are the workers of "Aida"? Whose concern are all of us, who can end up on the road to a border crossing tomorrow?

Whoever turns off the light last, please turn it off. It was a joke when we were allowed visa-free travel. Today, it is no longer a joke. Unfortunately, it is our reality.

And whoever turns off the light, let them not wake up the ruling or opposition parties.
