EU funds: What has been restored so far after the catastrophic floods of 2014

The European Union Flood Recovery Programme, launched in August 2014 with a value of 43.52 million euros following the catastrophic floods that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina, has so far restored 1,974 housing units out of the planned 4,248, according to a published graphic, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Emergency repairs covered 1,604 structures, and 270 homes were rebuilt for families who were in temporary accommodation.

PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS

107 schools have been restored, and work on 11 of them is ongoing. More than 117 public institutions that were flooded have been restored.

ECONOMIC RECOVERY

56 small and medium-sized enterprises have been selected as aid recipients in the amount of 1,472,520.62 euros.

This will preserve 1,860 jobs, while 1,300 were expected.

Aid has been provided for 700 agricultural holdings to restore production capacities, and at least 500 will be integrated into local and regional value chains with the aim of maximising income and sustainability.

REHABILITATION OF UTILITY INFRASTRUCTURE

Rehabilitation of 79 infrastructure projects has been completed, while restoration of another 45 is ongoing. For several projects, co-financing was provided by domestic authorities. Rehabilitation of five bridges in cooperation with EUFOR and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
