Srebrenica flower also on the lapel of Vienna Mayor Michael Häupl

Vienna Mayor Michael Häupl will wear the Srebrenica flower in the coming days as a sign of remembrance of the genocide against Bosniaks of Srebrenica and surrounding areas in July 1995, writes the BH news agency Patria.

Häupl has been at the helm of Vienna for more than 20 years, making him the politician with the longest tenure as mayor since World War II and the second longest tenure as mayor in Vienna's history after Josef Georg Hörl at the end of the 18th century.

A few days ago, the Srebrenica flower appeared on the lapels of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other UN officials in New York, during the central UN commemoration marking 20 years since the genocide in Srebrenica.

During July 1995, Serbian forces killed more than 8,000 Bosniak men, women and children in the UN-protected safe zone of Srebrenica, which was guarded by the Dutch UN battalion.

The Hague Tribunal for war crimes in the former Yugoslavia classified this crime as genocide, which is the largest genocide on European soil since World War II, writes NAP.
