SREBRENICA Preparations begin for the 25th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The first meeting of the Organisational Committee for the commemoration of July 11, 1995, the 25th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks of the „UN Safe Area“ will be held today at the Potočari Memorial Centre.

As previously announced, 2020 is of crucial importance for Srebrenica and the Bosniaks in this town. Some have said that 2020 represents a test of responsibility towards the past, as well as political maturity in the present, for Bosniaks in Srebrenica. We recall that one of the goals is certainly to adopt a law this year that would prevent the denial of genocide. On this occasion, international conferences were held last year, and one of the conclusions was precisely that such a law is urgently needed in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In July, the 25th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks of the “UN safe area” Srebrenica will be marked, preparations for which have already begun.

In July 1995, the army and police of the RS, with the help of military and paramilitary units from Serbia, attacked Srebrenica, which was a “UN protected zone”. After the fall of Srebrenica, genocide was committed against Bosniaks. More than eight thousand boys and men were killed in the most brutal manner, while women and children were transported from Potočari by buses to territory under the control of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
