Prepare for new traffic problems: Sarajevo Marathon to be held through Sarajevo and East Sarajevo tomorrow

(Patria) - The Association Dečki u plavom has apologised to the citizens of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo for the temporary, partial traffic suspensions that will last from 8:00 AM to 1:15 PM tomorrow.

Due to the holding of the 7th Sarajevo Marathon, there will be changes in the operation of public city transport in a large part of Sarajevo tomorrow.

Starting at 8:00 AM, the main event will be held - the marathon race of 42.195 kilometres, which is also the Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the marathon, as well as the Nutrino-vih21K - half marathon and the Memorial Race Osman Junuzović 5K powered by Fine food.

On the streets of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, nearly 2,600 competitors from 47 countries are expected, which is a new record in terms of the number of participants and the number of countries that have their representatives.

Traffic on the main city road in the direction of Marijin Dvor - Ilidža will be normalised by 9:40 AM. On the section passing through the municipality of East Ilidža, from 9:30 AM to 12:15 PM, traffic will alternate using one lane. They called on the citizens of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo to come out onto the streets and support the runners.

Race route: the start of the race is at Vilsonovo Šetalište near the Ars Aevi bridge and continues over the Suada and Olga bridge, Grbavička, Bulevar Ivice Osima, the AS roundabout, Topal Osman Paše - Vilsonovo Šetalište - Vrbanja - Zmaja od Bosne - Bulevar Meše Selimovića - Džemala Bijedića - Ilidža underpass - Blažujski drum - Vrelo Bosne - Stojčevac - Velika aleja - Hrasnička cesta - Put Famosa - 4. Augusta - Druge Sarajevske brigade - Vasilija Grđića - Kurta Schorka - Vahide Maglajlić - Bulevar Mimara Sinana - Plavi put - Želimira Vidovića Kelija - Šejha Huseina Bakri Gazaza - Safeta Hadžića - Bulevar Ivice Osima, the AS roundabout, Topal Osman Paše - Vilsonovo Šetalište.

"Bus and trolleybus lines that pass along the route of the participants, and are caught at the time of the runners' passage, will be temporarily stopped and redirected in accordance with the current traffic regulation, under the supervision of police officers of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton," the statement from GRAS says.

The safety of the participants will be ensured by 250 stewards, members of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Sarajevo Mountain Rescue Service.

From the Association Dečki u plavom, they emphasise that this event represents more than a sports competition. It promotes a healthy lifestyle as well as the positive values that we should all nurture together. Sarajevo will, once again, as many times before, show that it is a city of sport, energy, tourism, and great hospitality.

The organiser, the Association Dečki u plavom, will take all necessary measures to ensure everything goes smoothly to the satisfaction of the participants and the local community, they stated.
