Rails connected from Ilidža to Hrasnica, trams to start running in the summer

(Patria) - Construction works on the tram line towards Hrasnica reached one of the most important moments today. On 10.04.2026, the last weld on the track was completed in Hrasnica, connecting a total of 12.4 kilometers of track.

A total of 1,500 tons of rails have been installed in the works so far, connected by 1,503 welds, representing a significant infrastructural undertaking for the Canton of Sarajevo.

"After the completion of works on the turning loop in Ilidža and the installation of the remaining rails, the Ilidža turning loop will be fully connected to the track, creating all conditions for the establishment of tram traffic. From the summer of this year, the tram will run to Hrasnica," stated the Minister of Transport of KS Adnan Šteta.

He reiterated that for the first time in 60 years of numerous announcements, stories, and unfulfilled promises, the tram line to Hrasnica is becoming a reality.

"This project represents new value for all citizens of the Canton of Sarajevo and an important step towards more modern, efficient, and quality public transport. We thank every person in our canton for their support in building new values and a better life for all our citizens," said Minister Šteta.
