Sorensen: BiH has no alternative, it is already part of Europe

Sarajevo's Alley of Ambassadors got its 127th linden tree. EU Special Representative Peter Sorensen, with the help of the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, planted his linden tree. On that occasion, Sorensen said he was pleased to have received his place in this alley.

- It is very important for BiH to have international friends who want BiH to have the place it deserves. And I personally want to see it in the EU. The people here are warm, I felt that when I arrived. I felt how accepted and welcome I was - said Sorensen.

Regarding the visits of European officials in the past few weeks, Sorensen reiterated the problems in BiH that have already been mentioned.

- As EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Füle has already said, these are economic and social problems, IPA funds, and a greater fight against corruption. Baroness Catherine Ashton said during her visit that it is not a question of lowering the bar, but of helping you to overcome that bar. What is certain is that BiH has the support of the 28 EU member states and Brussels. This is already Europe, there is no alternative, so let's finally get there - said Sorensen.

Hadžibajrić said he did not doubt the linden tree would take root, and expressed hope that BiH, together with Sorensen, would emerge from apathy and move towards the EU.
