Soreca: Adopted 'European laws' bring concrete benefits to BiH citizens

(Patria) - Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Luigi Soreca believes that today's adoption of two "European laws" in the BiH Parliament is important because it brings concrete benefits to BiH citizens.

"Today's results are a welcome sign that the European path remains a priority that different political actors agree on.

It is also significant that it was possible to adopt crucial EU-related legislation amidst a political crisis," Soreca wrote on the X platform.

He recalls that at many crucial moments, BiH's European path has been delayed due to blockades and internal political discussions.

"With a dose of caution still present, we dare to hope at the same time that this is a sign that political actors recognize what is fundamentally at stake at this important moment for the country on its European path, and that they are ready to overcome obstacles towards further progress," states Soreca.

He reiterates that - if Bosnia and Herzegovina fulfills certain achievable conditions - the Intergovernmental Conference for the opening of accession negotiations can be held in the coming months."

"There are still a few steps that BiH needs to take, such as the Law on the HJPC of BiH, the law on courts, and the appointment of a chief negotiator and a negotiation team.

Preparatory work has been completed, and the final result is within reach. Now it is a matter of political will to cover the last meters to the finish line," states the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH.

He also reminds that the lack of agreement on the Reform Agenda of the Growth Plan deprives BiH of one billion euros in investments, as well as concrete opportunities to improve the quality of life for the citizens of this country.
