(Patria) - Head of the European Union Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Luigi Soreca visited Srebrenica today and laid a wreath at the memorial in Potočari in memory of the genocide victims.
"The visit confirmed the painful truth that the genocide 30 years ago in Srebrenica was one of Europe’s darkest chapters. Hearing from survivors is a powerful reminder of the importance of truth and remembrance. We must reject any attempt to deny facts and glorify war criminals," Soreca stated after the visit in a post on platform X.
He thanked the Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center Emir Suljagić and the President of the Center's Board of Directors and the Organizing Committee for commemorating the genocide in Srebrenica Hamdija Fejzić for their work so far in preserving the memory of the genocide victims.
As Soreca stated, they also discussed preparations for the upcoming commemoration in July and plans to strengthen the capacity of the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
"A better future for everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina requires empathy with the victims and survivors, and acceptance of historical facts and court rulings," Soreca emphasized.
