Soreca: RS leadership sided with the aggressor instead of celebrating Europe Day

(Patria) - Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Luigi Soreca believes that there has been a stagnation on BiH's European path and that he is doing everything to ensure that the focus of BiH politics returns to European integration.

- The intentions of policymakers are now focused on other issues, and the focus has shifted from one of the priorities, a priority for the citizens of this country who want a future in the EU.

Of course, I am disappointed. I have conveyed these views to the authorities at the state and entity levels.

I am doing everything to ensure that the focus of activities is on European integration. We are not doing this for the EU, although we also have interests in BiH becoming part of the EU - Soreca told BHRT.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only country in the region that has not met the conditions for the Growth Plan, and Soreca points out that its citizens are paying the price.

- Billions of euros that the EU has allocated for BiH are still available. We need to assess the interest and capacity for BiH to be part of this Plan. We need to see results - states Soreca.

He noted with regret that the leadership of Republika Srpska has turned to Russia instead of the European Union.

- The RS leadership sided with the aggressor instead of celebrating Europe Day. We will assess this from our side and work to ensure BiH's European path, but currently, there is no such path - Soreca emphasizes.

He adds that the European Union has a strong sanctions regime against Dodik, but that all member states need to agree.

- There are those who are currently preventing the implementation of sanctions. On the other hand, we have invited those who want to act from their side to do so - Soreca concluded.
