Soreca visited BHRT: Responsibility for the survival of the public broadcaster lies with domestic authorities, it is high time for concrete decisions

(Patria) - Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Luigi Soreca visited BHRT today to show solidarity with everyone affected by the critical situation at the public broadcaster. He met with trade union representatives and Director General Belmin Karamehmedović.

"I saw firsthand the working conditions at BHRT and highlighted my respect for BHRT employees who continue to professionally perform their duties in extremely difficult circumstances. BHRT is a key institution for the democratic development of BiH and its integration process into the EU. A stable and independent public broadcasting service remains a priority on this path.

The responsibility for the survival of BHRT lies with the domestic authorities. It is high time for concrete decisions. If the competent authorities do not act immediately, the responsibility for the potential collapse of BHRT will be exclusively political.

The EU remains ready to provide technical and political support, however, we cannot compensate for the lack of political responsibility of domestic institutions.

At a time when the media are under great pressure from disinformation, commercial interests and political influence, an independent and objective public broadcasting service is more important than ever," Soreca said.
