Soreca: EU will not lightly allow the progress achieved in recent years in BiH to be jeopardised

(Patria) - Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Luigi Soreca, addressed today the additional troops from the Czech Republic, Italy and Romania, which have reinforced the EUFOR mission in BiH.

- The European Union has for the second time in three years decided to activate part of the EUFOR reserve forces to underline the EU's commitment to security and stability in BiH - said Soreca.

He emphasises that EUFOR Althea represents a key contribution of the European Union in supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European path.

- Through support to domestic authorities in maintaining a secure environment, the Mission plays a crucial role in ensuring stability. A secure environment, I remind you, is key to BiH's commitment to making progress on the European and NATO path - said Soreca.

He stated that the EU will not lightly allow the progress achieved in recent years to be jeopardised due to the political crisis that has called into question the political functionality of BiH in recent months.

- Your units are therefore called upon to reinforce the EUFOR Althea mission, thereby also sending a political message. The EU will do everything to preserve the positive steps BiH has made on its European path.

Allow me to conclude with assurances that your units directly contribute to the European Union's commitment to supporting the country on its European path.

The European Union and I count on your dedication to ensure peace, stability and progress for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Through continued cooperation, dialogue and concrete action, we can achieve the shared vision of a prosperous, democratic and European future for the country - added Soreca.
