Solomon Islands 'corona-free'... for a little longer

(Patria) – The Solomon Islands is one of the few countries without a single case of Covid-19 infection, which may unfortunately change soon.

Namely, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has announced the repatriation of more than 400 students, including 12 who tested positive for the coronavirus, who have been in the Philippines since the Solomon Islands closed its borders in March.

The announced return of students from the Philippines, which otherwise records more than 260,000 cases of coronavirus infection, is causing headaches for local officials who, however, don't have much choice but to remain optimistic:

- We look forward to seeing our students soon, and rest assured, the Solomon Islands will remain corona-free, Prime Minister Sogavare said diplomatically in a televised address.
