Solana Tuzla gets new Management Board

The Supervisory Board of Solana d.d. Tuzla appointed a new Management Board of the company, headed by Director Bakir Smailagić. The new Management Board announces strengthening the leading position of the largest salt producer in the region, increasing business efficiency, as well as new investments aimed at new employment and capacity expansion.  

“In its 133-year history, Solana d.d. Tuzla has been and remains a synonym for quality. The combination of tradition and quality has promoted Solana to a true leader in the production and sale of salt, both in the domestic market and in the region. The task of the new Management Board is certainly to maintain quality, increase business efficiency, and develop new salt-based products.

We will plan long-term investments to increase Solana's production capacities. All of this will enable Solana long-term prosperity, preserve its leading market position, and provide opportunities for employing new staff. I must emphasize that our greatest asset is our employees, and the vast knowledge and experience that we have generated at Solana since 1885. Furthermore, we will develop our business through the company's independent development and a transparent relationship with business partners and the local community,” stated Bakir Smailagić, the newly appointed director of Solana d.d. Tuzla.

Salt has always been produced in these areas, and Tuzla is the city of salt, where the exploitation of this essential ingredient for life dates back 2500 years, according to historical facts. Solana d.d. Tuzla is one of the oldest companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina and our oldest food industry. The salt production process follows the so-called “closed-loop” principle, which ensures absolute protection from possible external influences and pollution. Salt is extracted from brine sources, which are delivered directly to the factory via a special brine pipeline, processed, and packaged without human touch or other external influences. With an ideal ratio of healthy ingredients, Tuzla salt is found in many domestic and foreign products, and its most famous brand is the 1 kg package, an indispensable part of every household in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with which Solana is the undisputed leader in the domestic market. In addition to Tuzla salt, there are also Diet salt, Tableted salt, Nitrite salt, as well as Industrial boiled non-iodized salt, then Do – do spices, and Distilled water. Solana d.d. Tuzla exports its products to countries in the region and the EU.   

Solana possesses and operates in accordance with an integrated management system. The implemented quality standards ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000:2005, HACCP, Kosher, and Halal clearly define traceability in salt production.

Bakir Smailagić was born in 1972 in Tuzla. He has extensive experience in management positions in companies such as Mlin i pekara Ljubače, Klas d.d. Sarajevo, Konzum d.d. Sarajevo, and Velpro d.d. Sarajevo, CPA d.o.o. Tojšići. He is a graduate economist, and he acquired additional knowledge and skills through the Unilever company training program in Sarajevo. He was appointed Director of Solana d.d. Tuzla on December 18, 2017.
