Solak: The situation is stabilizing, but nature is sometimes difficult to deal with

There is still a lot of work ahead of all of us, said the acting director of the Federal Civil Protection Administration Fahrudin Solak, but the situation has stabilized considerably, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

- Cantonal civil protection administrations are now responsible for further steps. The commissions for damage assessment have not yet prepared reports even for the floods from May, and this needs to be completed so that funds from Civil Protection can be allocated – Solak said.

Commenting on the floods that hit BiH in May and again in August, Solak said that considering everything, the FUCZ showed readiness.

- The readiness of our system was shown during the floods. We did not have many victims, and we reacted quickly to all requests – Solak said.

After a period of high temperatures without precipitation, fires broke out in some areas.

- Our employees have undergone training, but nature is sometimes very difficult to deal with, regardless of all the equipment we have. This is not only the case here but also with other much more developed countries – Solak said.

We remind you that after the floods, which again caused great damage, numerous places were left without road communication, and new landslides were reported. The situation was most difficult in the areas of Željezo Polje and Žepče, as well as several villages in Maglaj. Although machinery and personnel were engaged, the consequences of the floods will take a long time to repair, and in many areas, life will no longer be possible due to landslides.
