Solak confirmed: Aerial bomb no longer a danger to citizens of Bosanska Otoka

10:18 - The aerial bomb from World War II found in the center of Bosanska Otoka no longer poses a danger to citizens.

Director of FUCZ Fahrudin Solak confirmed to Patria agency that experts destroyed 70 percent of the explosive in the bomb's fuse using a robot, and that the remaining 30 percent of the explosive does not have the power to activate the bomb.

Experts from FUCZ continue working on the complete removal of this bomb.

10:00 - Director of FUCZ Fahrudin Solak confirmed to the Bosnian news agency Patria that the deactivation of the aerial bomb in Bosanska Otoka is proceeding according to plan so far.

- An explosion from the activation bomb just rang out, but I am not sure we have already achieved what we wanted. Robots are approaching the scene; in a few minutes we will know more details - Solak says.

9:15 - Experts will deactivate the bomb using robots, which were specially made for such situations. 

9:00 - The alarm siren has been activated, which also marks the beginning of the operation to neutralize the aerial bomb in Bosanska Otoka.

The evacuation of the population from Bosanska Otoka due to today's operation to remove the World War II aerial bomb, which was found a few days ago near the city center, began this morning at 6 a.m., reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Members of FUCZ and OSBiH want to secure the area near the bomb as much as possible, in order to prevent even the slightest inconvenience.

Several thousand residents of Bosanska Otoka will be accommodated in reception centers in the municipality area, and they will be able to return to their homes this afternoon.

The aerial bomb found in Bosanska Otoka weighs 248 kilograms and has great destructive power.

To neutralize it in the safest way, experts from CZ and OS BiH built a wall of sandbags around it, four meters high and 7.5 meters thick, and around the site where the bomb is located, they also dug protective channels to prevent any potential underground effect of the bomb.
