Solak: Clogged drainage channels cause the most problems

Fahrudin Solak, director of the Federal Civil Protection Administration, said in an interview with the Patria news agency that the rain falling so far has not caused major problems, and that there is no threat of rivers overflowing.

- These are standard autumn problems and fortunately, there are no forecasts for heavy rainfall of 250 liters per square meter, as is the case in Šibenik and some other parts of Croatia, which would cause major problems. Of course, all rivers are rising, but the situation is stable for now – Solak says.

He added that the most problems were in Mostar and USK, but that meteorologists say the rain from these areas has already moved towards central Bosnia, so stabilization is expected in these regions as well.

- Clogged drainage channels cause us the most problems because they cannot handle this amount of water. Firefighters pumped water during the night in places where sewage overflowed. We are in constant contact with our meteorologists and we hope there will be no major problems – Solak added.

Expected amount of precipitation in 24 hours: in the south and southwest from 30 to 60, locally up to 90, in the northwest from 20 to 40, and in other areas from 2 to 10 l/m2. Wind, moderate to strong, south and southeast. Morning temperatures from 12 to 18, in the south up to 21, and daily from 16 to 22 °C.
