The number of displaced persons in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to floods and landslides in our country during May this year has mostly returned to their homes. However, according to data from the Federal Administration of Civil Protection, 3,500 people are still in collective centres or with friends. The largest number of displaced persons is in Tuzla Canton, Zenica-Doboj Canton, and Posavina Canton.
Fahrudin Solak, director of the Federal Administration of Civil Protection, confirmed for the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP) that the situation is still most difficult in the municipality of Žepče, where 2,700 people are away from their homes.
- This mainly refers to people from Željezno Polje, who were affected by devastating landslides. They are mostly accommodated with relatives or friends - said Solak.
Of the 1,300 people who were in collective centres in Orašje, 1,050 have returned to their homes. Of the 800 users of the collective centre in Odžak, 600 have returned to their homes. In Bosanski Šamac, out of 100 people, only 20 are still using collective accommodation.
In Banovići and Čelić, about 130 people are accommodated with friends and relatives, but they are waiting to return to their homes at any moment. In Zenica, 150 people are using a collective centre.
Solak explains that the Federal Administration of Civil Protection is currently feeding 5,900 people in Maglaj, who are cleaning the town and their homes after the catastrophic floods.
- We are satisfied with the dynamics of people returning to their homes after the catastrophic floods and landslides in our country. Our people are in the field every day and are making enormous efforts to improve the situation as soon as possible. Citizens are also helping - says Solak.
