UN's Shocking Data: People Leaving Bosnia, Towns Disappearing

The United Nations has released shocking data on the global demographic picture. Although the number of people on the planet will increase by more than 3 billion, Bosnia and Herzegovina will lose nearly half of its population on its territory. And political elites have been doing nothing for years to stop the emigration of citizens, reports the Patria news agency.

The United Nations has calculated that in 85 years, Bosnia and Herzegovina will have only two million people on its territory. Unlike the current 3.8 million citizens, the population will be half as large. According to the 25th UN report on demographic trends, this is the reality awaiting the entire Western Balkans. Demographers explain that predictions do not always come true, but confirm that Bosnia and Herzegovina is in big trouble.

Sociologists explain that this is the result of the poor economic situation in the country, as well as instability that causes insecurity. The consequence of all this is the birth of one or two children per married couple, instead of the former four or five. In addition, BiH does not have the resources either, claims Ivan Šijaković.

The state loses a city the size of Zvornik every year, meaning that 68,000 of its citizens left Bosnia and Herzegovina last year alone. The population sought security in Scandinavian countries, France, Croatia and Serbia, according to data from the non-governmental sector.

And so, while Bosnia and Herzegovina struggles with young educated staff and a demographic picture, year after year, political elites at all levels of government distribute director's chairs, reports BNTV.
