Shock for Bihać citizens, utility prices increased by 47 percent

(Patria) - At the session of the Bihać City Council, held after a long and heated debate, the proposal for a Conclusion on giving consent to uniform prices for the collection, removal, and disposal of municipal waste was adopted.

According to the new provisions, citizens of Bihać will pay KM 17.55 for waste removal instead of the current KM 11.95, which is a price increase of 47 percent compared to the previous price of this service.

The proposal was adopted with 17 votes from the councilors of the ruling coalition, while councilors from SDA, NES, and Možemo bolje voted against it. Before the vote itself, the councilors took a short break to form conclusions and coordinate the clubs in the City Council.

After the break, Vildana Zulić, Assistant Mayor for Development Management, Communal Activities, and Environmental Protection, reported that the joint proposal of all City Council clubs to form a working body was accepted.

This body will, in the coming period, familiarize itself in detail with the analysis of the operations of JKP Komrad, including financial operations, analysis of income and expenses, organizational structure of administration and employees in the maintenance process, and fairness in the ratio of personal income of all employees.

Additionally, the working body will analyze existing and planned employment, business processes, implementation of savings measures and cost reduction, revenue increase, transparency of reporting all achieved revenues, and opportunities for applying for public calls to support the realization of development projects.

Furthermore, the focus will be on the analysis of municipal waste management, prices of similar utility services in the Una-Sana Canton and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the impact on citizens' standards, and the proposal of a new and fairer methodology for calculating and determining the prices of these services.

It is expected that the working body will submit its findings and recommendations to the City Council in the coming period, which could lead to further changes in the policy of municipal waste management and service prices for the citizens of Bihać.
