Softić: If Čolak doesn't convene the Committee session, I will!

The second deputy chairman of the Joint Committee for Oversight of the Intelligence-Security Agency of BiH, Safet Softić, commented on the alleged affair regarding the wiretapping of Croatian officials and businessmen by OSA. The director of SOA, Daniel Markić, visited Sarajevo in this regard today. It was determined that there was no action by one service towards the other and vice versa, writes the Patria agency.

- Regarding this alleged affair, it incredibly reminds me of the recent alleged affair concerning the wiretapping of another neighboring country, Serbia. After the Committee for Oversight of the Intelligence Service conducted a full review of the entire case, all the documentation, and everything that accompanied the alleged affair, we all concluded in the Committee that none of it was true, that these were so-called political spins that appeared. Mr. Špirić, who chaired the Committee at the time, publicly denied any wiretapping of Serbian officials, including Prime Minister Vučić, after the committee session - said Softić.

Softić said that this case also has some undertones or traces of everything that was seen in the recent similar affair concerning Ušće.

- My impression after everything I've heard about all of this is that it is about political attacks on BiH, as are, and we can say, some or several statements by Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, who has indeed made quite unpleasant statements about BiH that are not based on arguments.

- As for this Committee, which should be at the forefront when these matters are concerned, and which was at the forefront with this previous affair, we unfortunately have a situation where Nikola Špirić, as the chairman of this committee, has been removed from the membership of this committee by the House of Representatives. I have already discussed this with my colleague Čolak, who is the first deputy of this committee and is obliged to convene a session of the Committee that should elect a chairman, and we have agreed that colleague Čolak will convene that Committee session.

Softić said that Čolak has certain dilemmas regarding his chairmanship, given that the law clearly states that the chairmanship of the committee can be held by a person from the opposition.

- Given these new circumstances, I think it is Mr. Čolak's obligation to convene this committee session, to chair it until the election of a new chairman of that committee, and I believe he will do so very soon. If he is unwilling to do so, I, as the second deputy, will probably use my authority afterwards to convene this committee so that we are not in such a stalemate where the committee does not meet, while on the other hand, the agency is accused of very serious accusations of wiretapping, etc., something that enters into the interstate relations of two neighboring countries, etc.
