About ten days ago in Sarajevo, a young man suddenly died during physical recreation in the hottest part of the day, confirmed for the Patria news agency the director of the Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance of Canton Sarajevo, Sena Softić Taljanović.
She stated that the young man suffered a "sudden cardiac death."
She noted that during extreme temperatures, physical activity should be reduced, especially between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
- Citizens should not expose themselves to physical exertion during extreme temperatures because it is an additional risk for the human heart. It is necessary to reduce all types of physical activities, increase water intake, avoid carbonated drinks, caffeine, and especially alcohol. Consume fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, and prepare meals for one-time consumption because they are prone to rapid spoilage at high temperatures - said Softić-Taljanović.
A special recommendation applies to the population that stays outdoors between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to pay attention to clothing and sun protection.
- Wear clothes made of natural materials, light colors, protect the head and eyes with sunglasses. This especially applies to risk groups: pregnant women, children, chronic patients, and the elderly - concluded Softić-Taljanović.
