Softić: PIC and OHR should prevent further escalation of tensions

Safet Softić, Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH commented on tomorrow's session of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) which will also discuss the referendum on January 9, announced for September 25, 2016.

- I think that everyone equally has an obligation to take a stand on this issue given how much this situation is generating tensions. I believe that the PIC and the High Representative should in some way prevent further escalation of these tensions and annul this decision – said Softić.

Softić also noted that the international community, to a large extent, condemned this act, as did those countries that participated in building peace in BiH and signing the Dayton Peace Agreement.

They have an obligation to prevent further escalation.

Sredoje Nović, head of the Club of Delegates from the Serbian people in the House of Peoples, said that it is clear how the PIC and OHR function and that their decision is already sealed and there will be no surprises.

- One needs too much courage to ban a referendum. That is an attack on democracy in any country – said Nović.
