Softić: The process of adopting the new Constitution of the Islamic Community in BiH is transparent

The Riyaset of the Islamic Community in BiH did not discuss the proposed amendments to the Constitution of the Islamic Community at yesterday's session, the BiH news agency Patria (NAP) has learned. Given the numerous agenda items, this exceptionally important initiative has been postponed, as we have learned, to the next session. The Sabor of the Islamic Community, as the highest body of the Islamic Community, will express its opinion and discuss it at a special session.

Otherwise, in recent months, members of the Islamic Community, experts from BiH and the world, have been sending their proposals for changes to the fundamental act of the Islamic Community. This is a historically important process and reform of the Islamic Community, which will strengthen the most important Bosniak structure and bring it closer to all Muslims in BiH.

The President of the Sabor of the Islamic Community, Safet Softić, commented on some negative media reports regarding the reform of the Constitution of the Islamic Community for NAP.

Softić stated that the claims that the reform was designed to establish mechanisms of political control are, to say the least, offensive to him as the president of the Sabor, as well as to the entire team that has invested exceptional effort.
However, Softić said that the procedure for adopting the new Constitution of the Islamic Community is proceeding as planned.

- The path for any manipulation is absolutely not open. As far as I understood from the texts published by the media, the objection is that the process for adopting the new Constitution has been accelerated. But, this process has been ongoing since April of the year before last. If this is a faster way to amend the Constitution, then I don't know what a shorter one would be – said Softić.

- Everything has been offered for public discussion, everything has been put before institutions and individuals, and everything will eventually come back to the session of the Sabor, which must adopt certain solutions by a two-thirds majority – said Softić.
