Snow avalanches in the Austrian Alps claim 6 lives

(Patria) – Six people lost their lives in snow avalanches in the Austrian Alps on Sunday.

The bodies of five victims, most likely from the Czech Republic, were found and recovered. They were hiking on the slopes of Dachstein in the north of the country.

On Sunday, a police officer (33) lost his life in a separate snow avalanche in southern Carinthia, on the summit of Grossglockner in the south of the country, during official training.  

In January 2019, about 60 residents of the town of Ramsau-am-Dachstein managed to escape another massive snow avalanche that caused enormous damage, but without human casualties.

At the same time, a sixteen-year-old boy from Austria lost his life in a snow avalanche while skiing in St Anton am Arlberg, reports The Guardian.
