With nearly three metres of snowfall this winter, the US city of Boston has broken a record, the State Meteorological Service announced on Monday, reports the news agency Patria.
With 7.3 centimetres of snow that fell on Sunday, the total snow depth reached 275.8 centimetres this winter, which is more than the previous record of 273.3 centimetres set during the winter of 1995/96.
So much snow has fallen in the city that it could not be removed, so wide streets eventually ended up with only one lane, and pedestrians walked through icy canyons on the sidewalks.
Almost all of the snow fell in the past seven weeks.
With rising temperatures, fears of flooding are also growing as the snow begins to melt.
