Snow in the USA causes problems, ten people dead

A snowstorm that hit the northeastern USA and, with drifts reaching up to two meters, almost completely blocked some settlements, has so far claimed a total of 10 lives. The most common cause of death is exposure to extremely low temperatures in the state of New York, reports the Patria agency.

The causes of death also included heart attacks while people were clearing snow in front of houses and cars.

The US National Weather Service warns that an additional 60 to 90 centimeters of snow could fall over the weekend.

The storm brought particularly large amounts of snow to Buffalo, where a record snow depth of 165 centimeters was recorded in the past 24 hours, which is 10 centimeters less than the record set in 1921 in Colorado.

Due to the snowstorm, many homes and businesses were damaged, a large number of flights were canceled, and some drivers were trapped in snowdrifts on roads for up to two days.

At least 5,000 people are engaged in clearing streets and roads, including members of the National Guard. Besides New York, the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania are also affected.

What could pose a problem is that the temperature will rise, and the melting snow could cause flooding.
