Snowfall has paralysed several regions in Bulgaria, and in the southwest of the country drivers have been advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary, reports the Patria news agency.
Snow, rain and strong winds have caused problems in eight of Bulgaria's 29 regions. Snow blocked more than 40 vehicles on the road between the towns of Kardzhali and Haskovo.
In the town of Smolyan, vehicles can only move along streets using chains, and several villages in this district have been left without electricity.
The Maritsa River near Svilengrad on the Bulgarian-Turkish border is expected to reach a critical level tomorrow.
