After snow surprised parts of Poland yesterday, flakes have also arrived in Germany. Not only in the Alps, but also in lower areas, the snow cover caused a traffic collapse, reports the Patrija news agency.
The first winter blast and the first snow that covered the Black Forest region paralyzed traffic as few drivers had time to switch to winter tires, and due to broken power lines, more than 10,000 households were left without electricity.
German authorities estimate that 15,000 vehicles remained stranded on the roads. Due to a snowstorm in the French Alps, authorities have opened shelters for travelers.
