Strong earthquake hit the coast of Chile

A strong earthquake, measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale, hit the coast of Chile, but there are no reports of damage so far, the Chilean Emergency Service announced, reports the news agency Patria.

The American Geological Institute announced that the earthquake was very shallow, at a depth of 10 kilometers below the seabed.

The epicenter was 93 kilometers northwest of Coquimbo and 466 kilometers northwest of Santiago, agencies report.

The earthquake did not trigger a Pacific tsunami, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center announced.

Chile is prone to earthquakes; in 2010, it was hit by an earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale, and in 1960, the magnitude was as high as 9.5 on the Richter scale.
