An earthquake of magnitude 8 struck southern Mexico on Thursday night to Friday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed, stating that there is a risk of a tsunami, according to world media, reports Patria agency.
This is the strongest earthquake in Mexico since the 1985 earthquake in which thousands of people died.
The epicenter of the strong earthquake, which was felt in the capital Mexico City, is located about 120 kilometers southwest of Tres Picos in the state of Chiapas. So far, there are no official reports of possible major material damage and casualties, but the BBC reports that at least two people have died.
Some parts of the Mexican capital were left without electricity.
