
An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Mediterranean early this morning, the US Geological Survey announced, reports the Patria News Agency.
The earthquake occurred shortly after 4 AM, at a depth of 10 km, about 65 km north of the Moroccan coast and 165 km east of Gibraltar, the agency announced.
There are no reports of casualties so far, but several buildings were damaged in the Spanish enclave of Mellila, on the North African coast, about 60 kilometers south of the epicenter, reported the Spanish El Pais. It is also stated that one of the aftershocks registered 5.3 on the Richter scale, writes Index.
