Reduced air pollution in Canton Sarajevo

The expert body for coordination and supervision of air quality monitoring informs the public that there has been a significant change in meteorological conditions, and consequently a drop in measured pollutant values in the air below the limit values, and the first level of ''Preparedness'' declared based on the Plan of Emergency Measures for Cases of Excessive Air Pollution has been lifted, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Otherwise, in previous days, due to the frequent presence of fog in the evening and morning hours, which favored the accumulation of particularly solid PM10 particles in the air, measured values required preventive action. Significant changes in circumstances occurred during 18.02.2015, when at reference stations the average 24-hour values were measured below 50 µg/m3, specifically at Otoka 47.4 µg/m3 and Ilidža 41.2 µg/m3.

Today, the trend of improvement continues, and the weather forecast of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute indicates weather conditions that should not cause an increase in pollutants, i.e., sunny weather is expected to continue until Saturday, when a change in the form of precipitation is expected.

Regardless of the Decision on the cessation of the application of special measures, warnings and calls remain in effect for all legal and natural persons who are owners or users of boiler rooms or furnaces to take all necessary measures to reduce emissions into the air. The call to vehicle owners to use fuel of verified quality, responsible use, and adequate maintenance of their technical condition to reduce the impact on air quality, which is particularly susceptible to negative influences during the winter season, remains current.
