Number of illegal entries into BiH reduced, work on facilities in Bihać and Ušivak

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Operational Staff for Migration Issues in BiH held a regular meeting today in Sarajevo, discussing activities and measures to combat illegal migration and the care of migrants on the territory of BiH. 

It was noted that the situation with migrants has significantly improved, primarily due to enhanced border control and surveillance, which has reduced the number of illegal entries into BiH. Therefore, it was concluded that these measures will continue in the future, as well as the deployment of reinforcements to the Border Police of BiH from other police agencies.

Since the beginning of the year, 12,752 migrants have entered Bosnia and Herzegovina, and estimates by competent agencies indicate that there are currently about 1,500 migrants in the Una-Sana Canton area.

Construction work is underway at reception centers in Bihać, where roof repairs, installation of joinery, and construction of an external fence are being carried out, which will improve conditions for migrants currently in this center. At the same time, reconstruction of the facility in Ušivak near Sarajevo is ongoing. It was concluded that activities on equipping and putting into operation the Agrokomerc facility near Velika Kladuša should continue, while in the Sedra facility near Cazin, capacities will be expanded over the next two weeks to accommodate up to 400 migrants from the most vulnerable categories, namely families with children.
