Smajić: Some policies are still being implemented in the spirit of the 1939 'Cvetković-Maček' agreement

(Patria) - The Party of BiH remains firm in its stance that it will not support the appointment of Marin Vukoja to the Constitutional Court of BiH, delegate in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament Džemal Smajić said today at the beginning of his guest appearance on FTV's Rezime program.

- No changes have occurred. NES also holds the position that it will not vote for Vukoja. We will see by the end of the session whether it will remain that way - Smajić said.

He points out that if Vukoja is appointed, it will mean that democracy in BiH has been 'buried'.

- We have previously stated that the complete list of all candidates should be presented to the parliamentarians. However, that did not happen, only one name, Marin Vukoja, was presented.

What I know is that it was a firm promise from the leaders of the Trojka parties to Dragan Čović, even before the formation of this imposed FBiH Government, that they would support Vukoja.

If you take a broader perspective, we can say that some policies are indeed still being implemented here in the spirit of the 1939 agreement - Cvetković-Maček - Smajić states.

He emphasizes that even today there are aspirations towards the division of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- We see synchronized actions by Dodik and Čović moving in that direction. What worries me is that they have the support of the Trojka parties coming from the FBiH.

What is happening here, I haven't said this publicly before, is nothing less than treason against the state of BiH by the Trojka parties - Smajić is categorical.

Legally, there are no mechanisms to prevent Vukoja's appointment, he further states, but it is very indicative why it was left until June 8 for the Constitutional Court of FBiH to discuss this issue.

Regarding the request of the Bosniak Caucus for an urgent session of the House of Peoples, he points out that there will be only one item on the agenda, and the statement that the Bosniak Caucus is blocking the work of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament is incorrect, nor have Bosniaks ever done so, he says.

Bosniak Caucus requests urgent session: Prevent the proposal of unconstitutional laws

- We want to work in the interest of the citizens of BiH. The five of us in the Bosniak Caucus have used our procedural right to schedule an urgent session with one item on the agenda, which is amending the Rules of Procedure, in order to stop all future procedural matters where unconstitutional laws come to us, such as the law on the Constitutional Court.

The Constitutional Court is a constitutional category and cannot be changed by law. This action we have taken today shows that we are not the ones blocking. This session will most likely be scheduled for Thursday at 11 AM.

We will see who among the delegates will respond. Čović takes over the presidency on June 16, and he will likely move towards scheduling a continuation of the session - Smajić explained.

He adds that "the Bosniak Caucus stands by its previous statements when we warned that if an unconstitutional item is on the agenda, we will leave and prevent a quorum for further work".

- HDZ and SNSD knew well that we would actually do that, and they deliberately pushed for it to be included on the agenda. With today's move, we are showing that we want to work - said Smajić.

Asked when the budget will reach the House of Peoples, he replies:

- What I know is that the Council of Ministers of BiH has absolutely not, not even in draft form, sent the budget proposal for 2024. We are left without a Growth Plan. This message from the ruling coalition to the Council of Europe and the European Parliament is a message of unseriousness.

Speaking about the state coalition, he says that the elimination of Bosniaks from the institutions of BiH is underway.

- What is functioning is the distribution of functions and positions, all at the expense of Bosniaks. Currently, there is a complete elimination of Bosniaks in the institutions of BiH.

The current Council of Ministers has hired 116 civil servants based on public advertisement; of these, 46 are Serbs, 32 are Croats, 34 are Bosniaks, and 4 are Others. Of the 14 key institutions, appointments were made for - 6 Serbs, 6 Croats, and 2 Bosniaks.

HDZ and SNSD could not do all of this in the Council of Ministers without the full support of the ministers coming from the Trojka parties. They support this - Smajić concluded.
