NADIN CASE Smajlović family addressed the Office for the Fight against Corruption

SARAJEVo, (Patria) - Amina and Denis Smajlović, parents of the girl Nadin Smajlović, who was denied treatment at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS), visited the KS Office for the Fight against Corruption and Quality Management today.

They submitted all documentation related to this case to the employees of this Office.

“We explained what happened to our family and submitted all the documentation we have. All of this will be translated and forwarded to the Office's advisor Eric Larson,” said Amina Smajlović. 

The case of 13-year-old Nadin Smajlović, who, according to her parents, was denied treatment at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo, is attracting significant public attention.

The girl Nadin was admitted to KCUS with health problems. After it was determined that KCUS could not provide the necessary therapy for the girl, the parents requested a transfer, which KCUS refused and did not sign the transfer. The parents independently transferred the girl for treatment to Turkey, and she continued her treatment at the UKC Tuzla, which signed the necessary documentation for Nadin to be transferred. 

KCUS denied these claims, stating that they did not deny the girl treatment, although the director of KCUS, Sebija Izetbegović, publicly stated at a press conference that "no one will treat a child of such parents." 

The Ombudsmen of Bosnia and Herzegovina concluded that there were certain procedural shortcomings in this specific case, which jeopardized the patient's rights.

The Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton opened a case on this matter following a report by the Smajlović family. The mother, Amina, was heard and submitted numerous documents as evidence that doctors at KCUS refused to treat her daughter. However, there is still no prosecutorial decision. The latest information is that the allegations in the report are still being verified. 

Due to the case of Nadin Smajlović, proceedings have been initiated before the KS Medical Chamber, i.e., the Ethics Committee, against Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović for his statements on this case. The signatories of the report are pediatricians from KCUS who accuse Gavrankapetanović of publishing their photos on Facebook. They were also bothered by Dr. Gavrankapetanović's statement that "treatment and the right to life are sacred to doctors."
