Four vans for transporting dialysis patients in flood-affected areas, provided by the Government of the Slovak Republic, will be handed over to health centers tomorrow in Sarajevo, reports the Patria news agency.
The vans, worth $92,000, are donated to health centers in Doboj, Maglaj, Domaljevac Šamac and Bosanski Šamac, and will enable daily transport for more than 120 patients.
Uninterrupted provision of dialysis treatment was one of the problems during the 2014 floods. To address this issue, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina signed an agreement in November 2014, which enabled assistance from the Slovak Republic to flood-affected areas within the UN Flood Recovery Program “Today for Us”.
The handover ceremony will be attended by Jan Pšenica, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to BiH, Goran Čerkez, Assistant Minister of Health of the Federation of BiH, Zahira Virani, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP, a representative of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Republika Srpska, and directors of the four health centers, UNDP announced.
