Image Circulated Worldwide: Mosque Destroyed by Devastating Flood to Be Rebuilt

The mosque in Cerska near Vlasenica, which was destroyed during the May floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be rebuilt, reports the BH news agency Patria (NAP).

A video of the water surge, from which only the minaret of the Cerska mosque stood upright, circulated worldwide after devastating floods and landslides hit BiH in May this year.

An agreement on the reconstruction of this mosque was signed on Wednesday at the Tuzla Mufti's Office. The agreement was signed by Vahid-ef. Fazlović, Mufti of Tuzla, and Mujo Hadžiomerović, President of the Executive Board of the Islamic Community of Vlasenica.

This agreement specifies that the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina will provide initial funds in the amount of 30,000.00 KM from the Fund for Damage Recovery from Floods and Landslides for the construction of this mosque.

Mufti Fazlović said that the destroyed mosque in Cerska is a symbol of the hardships that befell the people during the May natural disaster, according to the statement from the Rijasat of the Islamic Community of BiH.

Several private individuals from the country and abroad, as well as a large number of humanitarian organizations, have pledged assistance for the reconstruction of the destroyed mosque.

The land for the construction of the new mosque was endowed by Bego-ef. Selimović, former imam in the Cerska community, writes NAP.
