Sladić: A New, More Significant Change in Weather is Approaching

(Patria) - A new, more significant change in weather is approaching, announced meteorologist Nedim Sladić.

"Due to a drop in atmospheric pressure from the west, caused by the approach of an extensive cold front associated with a cyclone in the Gulf of Genoa, between lower pressure from the north and higher pressure from the south, a difference, or gradient, will be established in the atmospheric boundary layer, which will mark the beginning of windy weather that awaits us tomorrow.

During the upcoming night, the southerly wind will strengthen, first in the northwest of our country, so tomorrow morning, due to the more pronounced influence of the southerly wind, it will be significantly warmer in Krajina compared to the rest of the country (locally up to 22 °C)," Sladić stated.

The southerly wind will become increasingly pronounced throughout the rest of the country from the morning hours.

"During Friday, a moderate to strong, occasionally gusty gale-force southerly wind will blow (gusts up to 60 km/h), for which a yellow warning level is in effect. The entity meteorological institutes (FHMZ, RHMZ) have colored the regions of Livno, Bihać, Prijedor, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Sarajevo, Višegrad, and Foča yellow. Such weather conditions are not unusual, but they can cause minor difficulties due to the overturning of small and easily breakable objects.

Due to increased inflow of moist and unstable air from the sea, heavier rainfall is expected in Herzegovina, often exceeding 50 mm. In interaction with the Dinarides, due to stronger cooling, expansion, and condensation of air, heavy downpours are expected in the surrounding mountains (Čabulja, Čvrsnica, Velež, Prenj), often heavy rain. For the regions of Trebinje and Mostar, an orange weather alert is in effect due to more pronounced rainfall. 

Weather conditions under the orange weather alert are characterized as dangerous, so citizens should pay maximum attention.

The strong southerly wind is expected to last until Saturday morning, 09/26/2020, when it will weaken and temporarily shift its direction to north and northeast," Sladić added.
