ASSEMBLY ON HOLIDAY, LAW ON HOLD Young people still haven't received the difference in subsidies for buying their first property

(Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton has not yet resolved the debt to over 1,000 young people who have qualified for subsidies for buying their first property under the public call from November 2023.

The latest information presented by the Prime Minister of KS, Nihad Uk, is that the KS Assembly will adopt a special law that will enable the payment of the subsidy difference up to the amount of 10,000 KM. This means that all applicants will be paid the difference of 5,200 KM.

We remind you that in January 2024, young people were paid 4,816 KM each, although the public call provided for up to 12,000 KM. However, due to the criteria that were changed in that public call, more than 1,000 applicants met the conditions, so the amount of 5.5 million KM was insufficient for them to receive the promised amount. Since this project has been implemented, this is the smallest amount paid.

The ordeal that has been going on for almost two years has not yet reached its final conclusion because the law has not yet been sent to the assembly procedure. It is the holiday season, and the KS Assembly will likely not be held during August, so it is likely that the law will only be on the agenda of the September session.

The Facebook group Hiperprivilegovana kasta announced that they are not aware of the draft law, nor what exactly it states and how the rights of young people are treated.

"In the meantime, the period of collective annual leave is coming, which means that the next Assembly session can only be in September, and after that follows a lengthy procedure: draft law, public debate, proposal, adoption... We call for caution and vigilance. Young people deserve a clear, transparent, and efficient procedure – not new delays and legal solutions without insight into their content," they stated in the announcement.

More than 5.5 million KM is needed for the payment of the subsidy difference, and considering the financial situation presented by the KS Minister of Finance, Afan Kalamujić, at the last session, it is clear that there is a lack of money in the KS Budget.

Otherwise, there were no public calls for 2024 or 2025, and the KS Government had previously announced the cessation of this type of subsidy.
